What I Do
Filming
Capturing footage for projects that will be edited and distributed in the future or live broadcasts, such as sporting events, concerts, and live news. This is done capturing unique footage and anticipating the right camera choices, especially when capturing live events while maintaining attention to detail in order to identify and capture small yet significant moments.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Set up the production space and filming equipment
- Implement the director’s vision with lighting and technical crews
- Framing and capturing camera shots for productions as directed
- Producing footage according to shooting schedules and call sheets
Video Editing
Follow an outline, script, storyboard or shot list and assemble the footage into one cohesive video or film. Review audio and visual footage and use computer software to organize clips into a cohesive unit. Duties include splitting or combining video clips, adding appropriate sounds or graphics and watching the finished product to catch mistakes before submitting it for review.
Examples of tasks that may be performed include:
- Assembling raw footage and transferring or uploading to a computer
- Following a script, screenplay or outline
- Inputting sound to enhance footage, which may include selecting music and writing voice-overs
- Inputting graphics to enhance footage
- Digitally splicing film and video and synchronizing them into one rough cut file
- Improving and correcting lighting, coloring and faulty footage
- Working closely with directors to present a final product that matches his or her vision
Motion Graphics
Create artwork for web, television, or film using visual effects, animation and other cinematic techniques to bring graphics to life for live video content used by handheld electronic devices, web programs, video games, smartphones and mobile platforms, including apps.
Set Design
Design and create sets for film, television, and theatre that serves as the physical environment in which all the action will take place within a production including things like backgrounds, furniture, and props.
Lighting
Ensure the best use of the subtle yet powerful medium of light, creating effects that can be changed at will to match the mood of the action. This includes setting up lights, lasers, strobes, spots and sometimes video screens used a production.
Basic lighting functions:
- Evoke the appropriate mood
- Indicate time of day and location
- Shift emphasis from one stage area to another
- Reinforce the style of the production
- Make objects on stage appear flat or three dimensional
- Blend the visual elements on stage into a unified whole
Audio
Edit and synchronize audio for live performances, film or video essential to film, video or live projects.
Drone
Skilled drone operation to enhance your projects by telling a story from a bird’s-eye view.
Drone footage techniques:
- Slide-sides: Captures a subject passing by a drone flying at a consistent altitude
- Fly-throughs: Captures footage from a drone flying through a narrow area, such as between two close buildings
- Reveal: Reveals a subject by flying over it backward until it’s in frame or bringing it into focus
- Flying backward: Offers a unique perspective and ensures propellors and prop shadows aren’t in frame
- Orbit: Captures footage from a drone circling an object in the center of a frame
- Tracking shot: Follows a moving subject, usually from behind
